Reader Submission: The Ouija Board

“In reference to my Shadow Man story, I have another unique story I’d like to share, as one of my many paranormal encounters. After several years of living with the man in black and finally being relieved of him, I encountered something that I brought upon myself. Luckily, it wasn’t harmful, but it was very noisy. Why? Because in my day, Ouija boards were considered a fun thing to do at sleep overs.

I went to live with my dad after my parents divorced and the man in black disappeared. It happened when I was 17 years old. My friend and I were playing with a Ouija board in my room one night as we thought it was harmless, teenage fun. Nothing happened during the Ouija session. Later that night when we were in bed, we heard something running at full force up the stairs where we were. We heard what sounded like a cabinet door open, then creak…then slam shut. All of these noises were taking place in my room.

It was about 2 in the morning, so we thought one of my brothers might be up late. We went to check on them,  but both of my brothers were sound asleep. We shrugged it off, and went to bed. At about 4 a.m. it happened again. I ran out my door real quick to catch what I thought was my brother, but nothing was there. This continued every night for the next several months.

Later, the same friend and I decided to perform a seance to see if we could figure out what it was. We asked yes and no questions. We would get taps on the closet door. Once for yes, twice for no. When we asked the spirit to show itself, we heard it running up from the basement stairs to the hallway stairs. It then opened my door and slammed it shut. We never saw an apparition, but we clearly saw the door move and slam with nothing there. The events didn’t stop until I moved out of the house. Even when I stay overnight sometimes, I do not sense the spirit. Most of the time, the slamming doors happened right when I was about to fall asleep.

I do not think it was demonic or angry, although it was very playful. I learned that Ouija boards are a gateway to the spirit world and definitely something not to be taken lightly. Fortunately, I didn’t let in anything harmful; however, it has crossed my mind that I could have. As a mother, I can tell you I will never let my kids bring one in my house.”

  1. This is very reckless. I would have thought that after seeing what the man in black could do, you would be more weary of such things. I’ve stated in your other story and I’ll state it here; you need to seek spiritual counsel. You have said you had an out-of-body experience as a child. Have you begun to see a certain change or a particular strange behavior in your children. An out-of-body is a peice of a gift very often passed from parent to child. I do not seek to ridicule or belittle you. I only seek to offer what limited knowledge I possess of this world in order to help humanity. If the man in black still lingers near, he may try to do to you, what he did to your parents. Only this time he may succeed.
