Ghost Photo: The Black Monk of Pontefract

Taken at a famously haunted home in England, this photo appears to show an odd figure reflected in the mirror. Could it be the spirit known as the Black Monk of Pontefract?

In 1966, a couple with two children, ages 15 and 12, moved into a home in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, England. What followed was “the most violent haunting in all of Britain.”

Unexplained activity in the home included levitating objects, slashed photographs, and physical abuse from an unseen entity. One night, the entity grabbed the family’s daughter by the throat and dragged her up the stairs. On another occasion, the adults in the home awoke to see a black-robed hooded figure hovering over their bed.

In 2012, the haunting was featured in the British horror film When the Lights Went Out. It was also the subject of a book titled Poltergeist!. Today, the home is open to paranormal investigators such as Ghostnspectors Paranormal who took this photo in 2016.

True Ghost Story: Haunted by the Past

shadow person

“I live with three other students in an old house near our school. The house is haunted, and a lot of creepy things happen here.

On one occasion, I was talking with a roommate in my room when we heard the sound of running water. My roommate asked if I had left my shower on, but when we checked, the shower was off. I went to check my other roommates’ shared bathroom (they were gone for the weekend) and was shocked to see a jet of water pouring from the faucet. The shower knobs were turned as far as they would go. Spooked, I quickly turned off the water and ran back to my room.

Another time, my roommate came out of her room and asked which one of us had knocked on her door and shouted her name. Nobody had. We were all in our rooms doing our own thing. Another roommate said that she sensed someone sitting in the living room at night, and another heard dishes moving around in the cabinets.

Ghost Photo: Pool Phantom

The story behind this photo from Reddit’s r/ghosts, is that a person exploring an abandoned home in Mesa unwittingly caught a ghost on camera. Do you think the white figure in the corner is a spirit?

“I saw a ghost once with my own eyes,” one Redditor wrote. “And it looked exactly like this. I’ve always wondered whether it was an illusion, or if it could be captured in a picture. Now I know.”

Skeptics point out that the white figure could be anything from dust to an out-of-focus insect on the camera’s lens. What do you believe?
