Reader Submission: The Haunting

haunted house

“I have decided to share my story because I feel that my family and I have experienced a great ordeal. We moved into a house when I was in the second grade. We could have not been happier. We had an entire year where things seemed to be normal.

A problem we had is that you had to go through our garage in order to get to the basement. So my dad decided to build stairs inside so it would be more convenient to get downstairs and so we could get more use out our fireplace which was in the basement. This is when things started to happen.

Reader Submission: Haunted Nursery

haunted nursery

“My junior year of high school, my family moved to a new house in Ohio. I loved the house because it was huge. It was built in 1892 and everything in the house still looked original (i.e the floors, the wooden stair case, the wooden detailed trim on the walls.) It was beautiful, a dream home for any large family.

I’m not easily scared. I watched every scary movie you can think of from the time I was able to choose what I watched. I’ve even been ghost hunting with my boyfriend and his friends. I’ve never considered myself a ‘chicken’ and I’d never say I was easily scared, but I can promise you this, I’ll never step another foot in that house again.

Reader Submission: Haunted in Kentucky

moon at night

“I used to live in a home in Kentucky when I was young. There are numerous experiences that I had there, and I was always very frightened in the home. I was 4, maybe 5. I am now 20 years old, and I remember clearly everything that happened to me and the things I felt in that house. I have recently learned some history about the place, but I can’t say it it’s true or not as I can’t find any records.

My grandparents’ room was right off the living room, and to get to my room (which I shared with my mother) you had to go through my grandparents’ room through a little hallway to the back room (my room). In that hallway, was the door that led to the basement. I would never walk through that hallway. I would bolt through to get to my room. I always felt that something was going to happen if I went slowly down that hallway. Something evil was there. On numerous occasions, I would hear what sounded like chains rattling in the basement. My aunt tells me now that it might have been where slaves were held at one point.

Reader Submission: A New Haunted Home

“I recently purchased my first home, and I love it. It was built in 1927 and has all of the original wood floors, etc. throughout the house.

As I felt it more important to get the kids’ rooms organized, I didn’t sleep upstairs in my dormer bedroom until a month after we moved in. I went upstairs several times to put things away and started to wonder how I got so absent-minded that I kept leaving the built-in dresser drawers open. No matter how careful I was to close the drawers each time, one of the drawers was always open when I went back upstairs.
