Reader Submission: Ghostnado

“It was a dark and stormy night about three years ago in a suburb of Oklahoma City.  My girlfriend and I were watching TV at her grandmother’s house when we heard a loud boom. Suddenly, the lights went out and all we could hear was the beat of rain and the roar of wind.

No more than a minute after the lights went out, we heard a roaring that sounded like a tornado.  It was just us there and we ran and hid in the bathtub with a blanket over the top of us. After about two minutes, it got quiet. Then, the lights and television came back on.

We checked the news, but there was no report of a tornado near us. Gary England didn’t even mention bad weather in the area. I felt the house shaking, so I went outside to take a look.

I turned on the light to the back yard and saw that plastic cups were still on the patio table and that all the plastic chairs were upright. Everything was dry.

One thing was different though. On the table outside was an unfamiliar watch, still with the right time even.  My girlfriend took the watch inside, and the next day her grandmother told her it was her grandfather’s watch and that she hadn’t seen it in a long time.

So, basically, it was ghost tornado that never happened.”

Ghost Photo: Tornado Victim Returned?

ghost picture

Nine-year-old Nicolas McCabe died inside a Moore, OK elementary school after a tornado leveled the building on May 20, 2013. However, Scott McCabe, Nicolas’s father, believes his son is still around.

The elder McCabe told an Oklahoma news station that Nicolas appeared in a photo taken on the 4th of July (above). The girl in the photo is Nicolas’s cousin Madison, but the blurred face behind her is Nicolas, or so his family believes.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” Scott said. “Nicolas loved the Fourth of July and he loved firecrackers. My brother, when he saw it, he said the hair stood up on his neck.”

Ghost Photo of the Day: Theater Spirit

ghost photo theatre

A reader writes: “I’ve attached a photo of what might be a ghost (in costume?) in the workshop area of an Oklahoma community theater. There are many reports that the theater is haunted: hearing footsteps, hearing one’s name called, seeing people in the corner of one’s eye — but, of course, no one is there. We also have many ‘orb’ photos, but this photo is probably the oddest piece of evidence we have.”

Most people head to the zoo to check out the exotic wildlife, but some zoos offer the rarest creatures of all: ghosts! Here are five reportedly haunted zoos in the United States.

A Ghostly Lioness Continues to Stalk Her Prey – Cincinnati Zoo
Legend has it that visitors who stroll alone in isolated areas of the Cincinnati Zoo may find themselves stalked by a ghostly lioness. Guests hear the sound of heavy footsteps and low growls, but turn around to find nothing behind them. Glowing, green eyes also shine from wooded sections of the zoo.

Bumps and Boos – Philadelphia Zoo
Legend has it the Philadelphia Zoo is home to a number ghosts which make their presence known through flickering lights and full-bodied apparitions. Syfy’s Ghost Hunters investigated the zoo in 2010 and encountered strange thumps, bumps, and old-timey music.
