Reader Submissions: 3 True Haunted House Stories

spooky house

In the mood for a haunting read? Here are three chilling tales submitted by Ghosts and Ghouls readers. We’ve got Ouija-induced terror, disembodied screams, and a haunted chalkboard. Pleasant dreams!

Chalk It Up to a Ghost

“When I was about 10 years old, I was convinced that there was the ghost of a little girl in my room. I would talk to her every night, and even though she wouldn’t respond, I always knew she was there.

One night I decided I wanted her to respond to me, so I looked all over my room for a piece of paper, but I couldn’t find one. Instead I pulled out an old, tiny, dusty chalkboard from my closet and set it on my bed next to a piece of chalk. I wasn’t quite sure what to ask, so I just said, “Um, so how many years have you been dead? Write your answer on the chalkboard if you are really here.’ Not thinking it would work, I fell asleep.

The next morning I got up, and looked at the chalkboard. There was no writing on it, so I picked it up to put it back in my closet. When I was walking there, the chalkboard hit the light. You could clearly see, written in the dust, the number 111. I don’t try to communicate with her anymore.”

Reader Submission: Ouija Zozo

“A spontaneous decision led my friends and I to try Ouija for the first time. My friend Christian said, ‘Hey dude, wanna try a Ouija board? We’ll be bored if we don’t.’ Who could argue with a solid statement like that?

So I went with my friend Christian, and another guy, and two girls to an old iron furnace in what used to be the town of Fitchburg. Fitchburg was a furnace and railroad community that was abandoned in the 1950s. I had read about several life ending-accidents at the furnace, and because of my attitude and skepticism towards the board, I decided that the furnace would be the best place to try.

We arrived around eleven at night and set up the board, a table, and candles inside the main center column. Christian and one of the girls got on the board and started asking questions. At first, we got nothing, but after ten minutes the planchette started moving. This freaked both Christian and the girl out, but they continued at Christian’s request.

The board claimed to be the spirit of a little girl who had died in a train accident many years ago. What started off as a ‘friendly’ spirit quickly turned more aggressive and told us to leave repeatedly. Christian kept trying to ask the spirit questions, but it would just spell out “LEAVE”. Eventually, it creeped everyone out enough to end the session. The other guy who was with us said he heard a low growling noise. But in all honesty, that guy gets scared if the wind blows, so he is hardly credible in this situation.

Reader Submission: The Ouija Boy

“My friend and I moved into an apartment about two weeks ago. On our first night here, I had a vivid dream that a little boy (around 10-12 years old) stood by my bedroom door and watched me sleep, all the while coming closer and closer. The next day, I told my friend about it. We are both very interested in the supernatural so we decided to get out a Ouija board out and see if it was real.

We contacted a spirit that said it was the boy. He said he had died in our apartment building, in room 308. That room is just down the hall from us. We talked to it a bit and it seemed nice. We eventually said goodbye and went to sleep.

The next day we used the Ouija board again because our friend came over and wanted to try it. The spirit we got didn’t like me because I’m a woman. It even spelled out the word b*tch. The planchette kept moving off the board and towards me, across the table. We asked it if it was obsessed with me, and it said yes. My friend decided to ask if it was the boy we talked to yesterday. It said yes. We said goodbye and put the board away.

Reader Submission: Ouija Possession?

ouija board session

“I’ve never believed in possessions. I still don’t know if I do. But I had an experience that makes me wonder…

It started when I was 8 years old. My older sister would always talk to the walls. I thought she was crazy. She would always talk about her friend Annabelle and would introduce me to air. I never saw anything but would usually play along. My doctors say it was a mental disorder, but my sister was perfectly normal otherwise.

When I was about 15, my sister started using Ouija boards. I would watch her and her friends’ sessions by sitting next to them, but I never had the courage to try it myself. I soon discovered who Annabelle was because she talked to my sister through the Ouija board. My whole family was creeped out.
