5 Creepy Tales of Imaginary Friends

Imaginary friends. Pretend playmates? Or something more sinister? The five creepy tales below come from Reddit.com and show that imaginary friends aren’t always the stuff of make believe.

The Girl in the Closet

“When my daughter was three she had an imaginary friend named Kelly who lived in her closet. Kelly sat in a little rocking chair while she slept, played with her, etc. Typical imaginary friend shit. Anyway, fast forward two years, the wife and I are watching the new Amityville (the one with Ryan Reynolds) and our daughter walks out right when dead girl goes all black eyed. Far from being disturbed she said ‘That looks like Kelly.’ ‘Kelly who?’ we say ‘You know the dead girl that lived in my closet.'” – Original thread

Reader Submission: The Demonic Entity

shadow person

“I lived in New Baden, Illinois with my boyfriend and our four-year-old daughter. We lived in a green mobile home haunted by a demonic entity.

When we first got to the home, I saw something shoot down the hallway. I said, ‘There’s something in here with us, something not human.’ My boyfriend said I just needed to get used to the new surroundings, but I know what I saw. It was a black, human-shaped shadow, and it ran down the hall every time I took a shower. My daughter’s closet was on the other side of the wall, and she saw him too.

Every night, I closed my daughter’s closet door before she went to bed. Every morning, I found it open. I said, ‘Baby, if you’re afraid of the bad man in the closet, why do you open the door?’ She said, ‘I don’t. He does.’

Reader Submission: The Man at the Door

“My father always argued that a near death experience was the result of chemical processes in the brain.

This all happened Wednesday night, 2/15/17. I returned home after my husband had taken me out for a fancy diner the day after Valentine’s Day because it would be less busy. After we got home, he went to bed and I stayed up watching YouTube.

At 11:30 p.m., I heard someone knocking on the front door and it sounded like they might be trying to break in. I started yelling, asking who it was. It was a police officer.

I told him to hold on. I ran up and told my husband to get up and come down…’It’s the police.’

My husband talked to the officer as I hid behind the door. The officer asked for me. I came out from behind. He then said something that knocked the wind out of me. Mom couldn’t reach me by phone. Come to her house. My father’s in the hospital.

Reader Submission: The Lenham Killing Pole

“Telephones are not the same anymore. No longer do we get crossed lines, mysterious strange noises, nor do we have to ask an operator to be connected to our number of choice. Indeed, we mostly carry our telephones with us, easily available for instant use, and usable in many different ways. Overhead telephone lines are also fast disappearing, as the conversion to underground cables and fiber optic connections continues at a constant pace. The ugly telegraph poles will not be missed though, especially the one near the medieval village of Lenham, locally known as The Killing Pole.
