The Vampire of Lochmaben Castle

lochmaden castle ghost

Taken near the ruins of Scotland’s Lochmaben Castle, the photo above reportedly shows a vampire.

“Its face was as gray as granite, its eyes as black as coal,” said Tom Robertson, the man who took the photo. “The skin seemed transparent except for the purple veins protruding from the creature’s dead, withered tissue. It was tall but round-shouldered and a hood was pulled over its head, dressed in sacking. Vampire.”

Robertson chronicles the sighting, and other supernatural encounters in his book, Ghosthunter: Adventures in the Afterlife.Do you think he’s telling the truth?

Ghost Photo: Haunted Inveraray Jail

Built in 1820, Scotland’s Inveraray Jail has a haunted reputation. Is the white shape above a ghost?

“Over the years, many visitors to the former prison have complained of uneasy feelings, strange noises and, in some cases, taken photographs which later show unexplained images,” the jail reports.

Ghost Photo: Stirling Castle Spirit

stirling castle haunted

The former home of Mary, Queen of Scots, Stirling Castle is one of Scotland’s greatest historical sites. But is it also haunted?

In 1956, an architectural photographer visited Stirling early in the morning to snap a few shots of the empty castle. The photographer saw no one inside, but when he developed the photos he was shocked to see the image on the right (or so claims this article). Does it show a ghost?

Like most castles, Stirling has a haunted reputation. Staff and guests have heard disembodied voices, laughter, and footsteps in empty rooms. Other visitors have spotted a kilt-wearing apparition that vanishes into a wall or fades when they approach. The castle is also reportedly home to a Pink Lady and a Green Lady, ghostly women who roam the halls and then disappear. Some people believe the Pink Lady is Mary, Queen of Scots herself, while the Green Lady is rumored to be a servant who saved Mary from a fire.

Reader Submission: The Edinburgh Vaults

haunted edinburgh“I’m 21 years old and live in Scotland. I’ve had many experiences with spirits in the past, once seeing a spirit in an abandoned house window, but this was the strangest.

It began on the 17th August when I decided to go to Edinburgh for the day. I couldn’t decide what to do and noticed a flier for the Edinburgh Vaults tour. I decided to buy a ticket for the “Paranormal Underground” tour by Mercat Tours.

When it comes to walking down into the vaults, you have a flight of stairs that comes into the circular chambers of the vaults. So I was in the middle of a big group of people and we were all walking towards the biggest chamber in the vaults. I was walking past a hallway to my left and saw a man leaning against the wall to the side of me. I didn’t look right at him because I was honestly surprised and a bit frightened.
