Reader Submission: The Haunted Camper

“My ex and I purchased a camper and moved it onto our property. The old man who lived in it before had fallen in the camper, hit his head on the corner of the kitchen counter top, and died. There was still a bloodstain on the carpet. The man’s children were from out of the area and didn’t want to deal with the hassle of moving the camper, so they sold it for next to nothing.

Not long after we moved the camper next to our home, I was sleeping on the couch in our living room. I was laying with my back facing out towards the room, nearly asleep, when something touched me and I jerked awake. My first instinct was that my child had come to wake me because he couldn’t sleep. I turned around to ask him what was wrong, but nothing was there.

I then thought it was my cat because he would occasionally come up and tap me with his paw. I got up and looked around for the cat, but he was sleeping in my child’s room on his bed. I was creeped out and almost went back into the bedroom, but decided to go back to the couch. To this day, I’m convinced that something inhuman touched me that night. I had a few other strange things happen, and I feel like it had something to do with moving that camper to our house.

Another time, I was home alone, watching TV in the living room. My chihuahua¬†was laying in the corner of the room facing towards me. All of a sudden, he got up and started barking as if he saw something. At first, I thought he was barking at me, which was unusual, but I realized he wasn’t looking directly at me but in front and to the side of me. He then went from barking to whimpering and running around in circles in the room, as if something was chasing him.

He continued on into the kitchen which is when I noticed he was not only running in circles and crying, he was also peeing on the floor as he ran. I picked him up and tried to comfort him and looked to see if there was anything wrong. I was so concerned I called my boyfriend and asked if I should bring him to the vet. His sister worked at a vet clinic, so I drove him down there just to make sure there wasn’t anything wrong with him. They looked him over and said he was fine and couldn’t explain the strange behavior.

I don’t know, but part of me thinks maybe he was barking at something he saw and that something didn’t like it. I think the thing started to chase my dog and scared him to the point of pissing himself. My dog had never behaved that way before and never did again. It was just a weird, inexplicable freak out.”

Reader Submission: The Haunted Train Station

“One day, my friends and I were down at a local park that was surrounded by woods. There was a small clearing where a fence guarded the railway tracks. Over the tracks, was a small building that we thought was a abandoned station; it was clearly not in use. All of the windows were shattered, and the roof was starting to cave in. However, we could see shapes moving inside. We eventually decided they were reflections, even though they moved differently.

The next summer we decided to get a look, so we crossed the quiet railway and headed toward the building. As soon as we came near, we got the feeling that someone was watching us. When we entered the building, we saw strange scratch marks on the walls. Then we suddenly heard a strange whisper followed by a massive bang as something fell over. We all ran away as fast as we could. There’s no telling what it was, and we’ll never know, because we’ve haven’t been near the building again and never plan to go back!”

Reader Submission: Kitchen Poltergeist

“Last week, my parents went out of town and I spent a few days alone. This was no big deal as I’m 18 and stay alone often, but this time the creepiest thing happened while they were away.

One afternoon, I was up in my room when the kitchen cabinets downstairs started banging. Now I’m not talking about little thumps and thuds. It sounded like someone was in my house slamming the cabinet doors as hard as they could. BANG! BANG! BANG! I was sure someone had broken in.

I stood there for a minute, freaking out and not sure what to do. I eventually snapped out of it and headed to my parents’ room to get the gun. Like I said, I was sure someone had forced their way inside the house and was ransacking the place. So I got the gun, loaded it, and left the room. The cabinets kept banging the entire time.

I headed downstairs, and the SECOND my foot touched the bottom landing, the banging sounds stopped. I mean one second there were these deafening bangs, and the next second it was silent. I thought that whoever was in the house had heard me coming down and was hiding somewhere.

I searched the house from top to bottom. I looked under the beds, in the closets, up in the attic, everywhere. There was no one around, and nothing had been disturbed. The cabinets were all closed when I downstairs, and the dishes were fine.

Once I was sure the house was empty, I grabbed my uniform and went to work two hours early. After my shift, I was too afraid to come home, so I stayed out until two in the morning. Thankfully, nothing happened when I got back , and nothing weird has happened since then.”

Reader Submission: Haunted Home

haunted house

“In the ’80s, my aunt used to live in a haunted house in Columbia, South Carolina. As far as I know, it was an average home- there was no dark history or murders -but the creepiest stuff always happened. Here’s just some of what my aunt and her family experienced there.

It started off with strange noises. For example, my aunt would hear what sounded like a broom falling in the closet, or shoes shuffling in the bedroom. When she went to investigate, however, the noises stopped and everything was where she’d left it.

Soon after the noises began, weird things started happening around the house. For instance, after a night of heavy snowfall, my uncle went outside and noticed water pouring from the faucet. The handle had been turned as far as it would go, but there were no footprints in the snow. How could someone turn the faucet on without leaving tracks?
