The Brown Lady of Raynham Hall (Photo)
The picture of the Brown Lady of Raynham Hall is perhaps the most famous ghost photo in the world.
In 1936, photographers from Country Life magazine captured the Brown Lady on camera while visiting Raynham Hall in Norfolk, England. Legend has it that the ghost is that of Lady Dorothy Walpole, the second wife of a violent man named Charles Townshend. Dorothy died of smallpox in 1726, but she is now said to haunt the historic home, wearing a drab brown dress and terrifying guests with her empty eye sockets and glowing face.
Country Life hired experts to examine the ghostly image, and the professionals stated that both the photo and the negative had not been tampered with. However, critics believe photographers smeared the lens with grease or somehow caused a double exposure. What do you believe?
