Reader Submission: Motion Pictures
“When I was kid, I slept in my grandmother’s room. She loves to keep lots of photos of everyone in the family. In fact, there is a whole wall just covered with pictures of my uncle, cousins, aunts, great great grandparents, my sister, and my mother and father. None of the photos themselves are creepy, but what they did is.
I have always had trouble falling asleep, so sometimes I stare into the dark and think. One night, when I looked at the pictures, I saw that the people in the photos were moving. I saw them bouncing the babies they’d been holding and laughing like they’d just been told a joke. I remember them all moving very slowly, and they seemed to move very stiffly, kind of like a poorly made claymation movie.
I don’t remember the last time it happened, all I know is that I just forgot about it. I didn’t think about it until recently actually (within the past few months). I remember telling my grandma about it, but she told me it was probably just a dream. But I explicitly remember this happening while I was awake, and it happened a few different times.
I keep an eye on photos in my room now waiting to see if it’ll happen again. I found it kind of comforting actually. I want to know if I was dreaming or if something like this has happened to anyone else. And if I was dreaming why did I dream that almost every night for about a year?”
