Ghost Photo: The Menger Mystery
San Antonio’s Menger Hotel opened in 1859 and has hosted such notables as Babe Ruth, Mae West, and four U.S. Presidents. The Menger still welcomes guests today, and like many historic hotels, is reportedly home to several spirits. Is this photo proof?
The story goes that a guest taking photos around the hotel noticed the dark shadow pictured above. The figure in red is a child, and she was the only person moving around the hall at the time of this photo. So who, or what, is the thing in black? One guess is Sallie White, a former chamber maid murdered by her husband in 1876. Or perhaps it’s one of the hotel’s many ghost children seeking a new playmate. What do you believe?
