Reader Submission: The Whisper

bali

“It was around 8 – 9 p.m. on Kuta, Bali Island, Indonesia. I was out with a couple of friends heading out. I was the last in the group so I was alone as we walked past a Balinese temple, or Puri. I heard a whisper over my right shoulder. I could not make out the whisper, because it didn’t sound like any language I was familiar with.

As I turned my head, I felt shocked, as if someone had hidden in the temple and jumped straight at me. However, all I saw was a wall. I felt a strange chill run down my spine, and I thought to myself, ‘Oh my God, I think that was a ghost.’

At a restaurant, I told my friends what happened and asked if they had experienced the same thing. They all said no. The next day I told the guide (he was a local Balinese man who was also a Hindu) about my experience. He said spirits tend to linger around various objects and often try to communicate with people passing near that object. He also said that the reason I was not able to understand the whisper was because only gifted people can do that. After that encounter, I saw Bali in a totally different way.”

Ghosts of the Saxtown Ax Murders

Stelzriede family monument

Stelzriede Family Monument

On the night of March 19, 1874, someone clubbed the Stelzriede family to death inside their Millstadt, IL home. The victims included Friedrich and Anna Stelzriede, their two-year-old son Karl, their eight-month-old daughter Anna, and Friedrich’s elderly father. In addition to clubbing each member of the family, the murderer also slashed the adults’ throats. An unlucky neighbor discovered the gruesome crime scene the next day.

The Stelzriede’s ransacked home suggests robbery as a motive, though this is merely a guess. Police interrogated several suspects, including two Stelzriede nephews, but were unable to solve the crime. Could that be why ghosts reportedly walk the old Stelzriede property on Saxtown Road?

Reader Submission: The Officer’s Warning

police car snow

“I’m still a state cop in Oregon, but I’ve been promoted to K-9 handler. One day, I had just pulled over a man for speeding, but as I walked up to his window I instantly got a bad feeling about him. So, I went back to my squad car.

Right when I got in, I felt a breeze and heard my passenger door shut. I looked up and saw a female officer no older than myself sitting in the passenger seat. I hadn’t called for backup, and when I looked around I didn’t see another squad car. There’s no way she could have walked over or been in the guy’s car without me noticing.

My dog Sargent was snapping and barking and growling at the woman, and the hair on his back was standing up. ‘Hello,’ I said. ‘Can I help you?’ She said ‘He has a gun by his seat.’ I turned to make sure the man was still in his vehicle, and when I looked back the officer was gone.

Reader Submission: A New Haunted Home

creepy_moon_pic

“I recently purchased my first home, and I love it. It was built in 1927 and has all of the original wood floors, etc. throughout the house.

As I felt it more important to get the kids’ rooms organized, I didn’t sleep upstairs in my dormer bedroom until a month after we moved in. I went upstairs several times to put things away and started to wonder how I got so absent-minded that I kept leaving the built-in dresser drawers open. No matter how careful I was to close the drawers each time, one of the drawers was always open when I went back upstairs.
