Reader Submission: Night Terror
“Here’s my story. As God as my witness, everything in it is true. This happened in 2009 at around 3:00 in the morning. In those days, we were working on getting our three-year-old to sleep in his own room. He was constantly waking up, coming into our room, and climbing into bed with us. We also had our one-year-old in a crib in our room because he frequently woke up with night terrors.
On this night, I remember waking up and seeing our three-year old standing at the foot of the bed with a blanket over his head. I woke up my wife and said: ‘He’s up again.’ She replied, ‘I’ll take him to bed and lay with him until he’s asleep.’ So she got up and led him by the hand to his bedroom.
It was maybe three minutes later when I realized our three-year-old son was actually laying on the floor next to our bed! A sudden sensation of terror came over me. I jumped out of bed and started running for my son’s room when my wife met me half way. She said: ‘I put him in bed, but when I rolled over there was no one there.’ That’s when I told her that both of our boys were asleep in our room. She started to panic and said ‘THEN WHO DID I TAKE TO BED?!?’ We never did find out, and to this day, we really don’t talk about what happened.”
